Attend the International Children’s Festival at the Aquarium of the Pacific, celebrate at the Nowruz Festival happening at the Central Library, be delighted and amazed at Discovery Cube Orange County’s Bubblefest, and more!!

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

“America’s most popular modern dance company,” Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will be performing at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from Wednesday, March 20th through Sunday, March 24th. The performance features world premieres as well as beloved classics, including Alvin Ailey’s signature work Revelations. The performance is about two hours long, including two fifteen-minute intermissions. Tickets are available online.

Spring Jubilee

Spring Jubilee is a special event happening at many LA County Parks from Wednesday, March 20th through Saturday, March 30th. Friday Movie Nights: The Secret Life of Pets

Matt Johnson & The New Jet Set: Swinging’ The Disney Song Book

Families are invited to a “magical journey through the enchanting world of Disney with Matt Johnson and The New Jet Set!” This multi-media musical experience will “transport you back in time with their retro-cool interpretations of your favorite Disney anthems.” Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 22nd (7:30 pm), Saturday March 23rd (11:00 am), and Sunday, March 24th (2:00 pm). El Capitan Theatre: Luca

From Friday, March 22nd through Sunday, March 31st, the El Capitan Theatre presents the Disney Pixar film Luca. Multiple screening times are available. And before the feature film, guests will see the Pixar Short “For the Birds.” Tickets are available online. (The movie is rated PG.)

Bubblefest

Mark your calendars. Bubblefest will be at Discovery Cube Orange County from Friday, March 22nd through Sunday, April 7th. “Prepare to be amazed by the artistry and science behind the shimmering world of bubbles, making this an unforgettable experience for the whole family.” Daily show times are scheduled for: 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:30 pm. Bubblefest tickets include access to the 45-minute Bubble and Laser Show and the Bubble Zone Festival, which includes DIY large bubble-making stations, paddle boat rides, and a Bubble Lab. Museums Free-For-All

This year’s Museums Free-For-All event is happening on Saturday, March 23rd. More than 30 museums and cultural institutions will be participating in this annual event, which allows families to visit for free. (Note – this offer applies only to General Admission. Specially ticketed exhibitions will still require an additional ticket with a fee.) A few of the participating museums include the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, California Botanic Garden, Craft Contemporary, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum. Huntington Park Library is hosting a César Chávez Celebration on Saturday, March 23rd from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Vroman’s Bookstore invites families to its Local Author Day event happening on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 am. Sasha Lee will present The Hanap?p? Hero. “Ron’s story is a catalyst for fostering a sense of community spirit and individual empowerment in kids. Each young reader, in their own unique way, has the potential to be a hero in their community, just like Ron.” And Kathleen Rinden will present Tippety Squirrel’s Neighborhood. “Come join Tippety as she explores her neighborhood to visit friends and finds all of the ways the townsfolk are still enjoying life and staying connected.”

The Everywhere of Her

Families with children in grades 5-8 are invited to a special presentation, The Everywhere of Her, at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library on Saturday, March 23rd. “Presented by the Ebell of LA, The Everywhere of Her is an imaginative, musical celebration of three remarkable women who each shaped Los Angeles: Charlotta Bass, Katherine Sui Fun Cheung, and Dolores del Rio.” Advance registration is required as attendance is limited. Start your Saturday with a musical performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. As part of their Symphonies for Youth program, on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 am, there is a performance of Swan Lake: Reimagined. “Experience how Tchaikovsky’s timeless composition inspires a revamped story for a modern audience by featuring selected pieces from the classic suite and, of course, a dancing accompaniment.” This 45-minute concert is recommended for children ages 5-11. Storytime Saturday

Take a drive to the Laguna Art Museum on Saturday, March 23rd for their 11:00 am event, Storytime Saturday. Children will enjoy author Pamela K. Knudsen reading her children’s book, Two Cars, a Mermaid, and the Disappearing Moon. After the story, kids will participate in a “watercolor pencil activity placing kids at the center of an adventure of their own.” (All children 12 and younger receive free admission. An admission fee is required for accompanying adults.)

Family Fun: Wordplay

The Orange County Museum of Art is holding a special drop-in program for families on Saturday, March 23rd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Inspired by the Tony Lewis: CASUAL T exhibition, families will “create your own comic strips playing with words and drawings to discover your own personal comic style – let your creativity soar.” The program is designed for children 3 and older. Take a drive down to The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch on Saturday, March 23rd for Kids Day. Celebrate Spring at the Norton Simon Museum on Saturday, March 23rd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Families will have the opportunity to view floral still lifes and garden scenes by Monet and Cézanne, among other artists. Then, children can “create your works of art that capture the beauty of the season and the new growth that it brings.” This program is designed for children ages 4-12 and is included in general museum admission. Women’s History Month Art Activity

The San Gabriel Library is hosting a Women’s History Month Art Activity on Saturday, March 23rd from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. “Explore women in the arts and then create an art piece inspired by painter Helen Frankenthaler.” For children ages 5-12. Touch-a-Truck

Discovery Cube Los Angeles invites families to its Touch-a-Truck event taking place from Saturday, March 23rd through Sunday, March 31st (11 am to 3 pm each day).
